We acquired a collection of historic cottages and warehouses in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Woodstock, Cape Town. In a semi-derelict state, they had been used by a printing company as a graveyard for retired machinery and paper stock. The old steel windows had been bricked up and all the structures were in a poor state of repair.
Working together with business partner and architect Toni Unterberger, we redesigned and orientated the spaces to open out onto a central courtyard, converting them into a collection of creative studios and workshops. Retaining the character of the old textured structures, the steel windows were opened up, historic details restored, and offset against new architectural elements.
This became the base for Nic Tamlin interior design’s studio and workshop, together with a collection of other creative companies.
