VICTORIAN HOME RENOVATION

This heritage home in Cape Town, had an awkwardly executed extension at the back, but the front remained beautifully original. After years of neglect and an unsuitable layout, it needed a complete redesign.

We restored the Victorian section, featuring elegant teak windows and sprung floors. The rear extension was demolished and rebuilt, with the roof raised to accommodate stunning three-meter-tall bespoke steel and glass doors—perfect for enjoying views of treetops and drifting clouds from the sofa.

We opened up the space, creating a seamless flow from front to back, linked by a continuous textured wall built out of recycled bricks from the demolition. The kitchen was relocated to the center and crafted from locally sourced materials. We used Japanese cedar, salvaged from a film production, for much of the custom joinery, including the kitchen island, which features a Japanese-inspired Shou Sugi Ban treatment paired with slate and raw steel details.

Many light fittings and design elements were created in our studio for this project.

The result is a timeless home that beautifully blends old and new, perfect for easy family living.
